New Book
I'm excited to say that my first book—"Advanced Western Riding"—is finished and available here. You can order from the link directly from Amazon. The entire process was a great experience and I look forward to finishing more books I have in the works right now. Even if you're not a western rider—and if you're not a rider at all—I hope you'll still take a look and I welcome your feedback. The book's more about sharing what I have learned from my teachers over the years. In a nutshell, it's all about how being a better person for the horses in my life helps me be a better person in general, and vice versa.
If you want to explore the notion that what we practice is who we are, or if you're interested in some ways to live a life that's a little more centered and congruent, there may be something of interest to you. That's my hope with the book: helping us all get a little further down the path of being good to each other and good to our horses. American Horse Publications Awards The trade association for all equine magazines, publications, publishers, photographers, and journalists, AHP is a wonderful group of professionals who share the passion of presenting horse-related information in a variety of forms to a variety of audiences. AHP's annual awards contest always means tough competition. Each category typically has a least a couple dozen entries from the top writers in the country. This year, I was humbled to receive 1st place for a two-part series I wrote for Horse Illustrated: "Can An Abused Horse Be Saved?" The input from Mark Rashid, Linda Tellington-Jones, Maureen Frederickson-MacNamara, and Dr. Patti Klein Manke made for a powerful set of articles and my goal with the series was simply to help a few horses live better lives. I hope the articles have done so. Read the article here. Sheila Varian founded the internationally renowned Varian Arabians breeding and training farm in Arroyo Grande, California, with her parents more than 50 years ago. I have admired Sheila since I was a child. She does things the right way, period, and it was an honor to write about her approaches to horse care and foal raising that have made her horses loved by humans around the world. "Doing Well By Doing Right: Sheila Varian's Journey of a Different Approach," which I wrote for Eclectic Horseman, received 2nd place. Read the article here. |
